Chef Matthew came home to Chicago with a world-class resume, a referral list, and no website. We built him the first one. Three weeks later he was the top result for his own name.

Client

Three Apples

A private chef in Chicago. In-home meal prep, private dining, and catering, cooked by a chef the city had only ever heard about secondhand.

Chef Matthew Cook plating with his team

The best chef in the room, and nobody could find him.

Matthew cooked at Boka, at Ever, and at The Inn at Little Washington, three of the most decorated kitchens in the country. Then he came home to Chicago, opened his own, and had nothing to point anyone at. Every booking arrived through someone who already knew him, which caps a business at the size of its address book. There was nothing here to redesign. The brief was to build the first thing this city would ever see of him, and to make it worth the resume standing behind it.

What we shipped

(01)

A logo that bends in the wind

The mark is a drawing: a branch of three apples held in a fist, inked by hand. We cut it into two planes and handed it to the GPU. A custom shader in React Three Fiber lets the branch and the leaves bend while the fist stays rigid and the fruit keeps its shape, each apple pinned as a solid body with a feathered edge around it. It is the first thing on screen, it is the whole brand, and it holds sixty frames a second on a phone.

(02)

The resume, given the run of the page

Boka, Ever, and The Inn at Little Washington alternate down the screen, each dining room in a capsule frame with a second frame outlined over it and knocked off register, like a pencil line laid over a photograph. Beside each name sit the Michelin guide's own star marks, in the guide's own red, as many as that kitchen holds. One, then two, then three. The reader does the arithmetic.

(03)

The food does the selling, the form takes the booking

Six dishes sit in a strip pinned to the scroll, each one a sliver until you reach it and it opens to full width under the cursor. Everything below it funnels into one booking form: name, contact, date, headcount, what you had in mind. It validates in the browser, lands straight in his inbox, and confirms in place without a page change. Booking him used to mean knowing someone. Now it means filling in five fields.

The takeaway

A resume like his is worth nothing to a city that cannot find him. We did not improve his business. We introduced it.

Menus, seasonal tasting events, and a way for returning clients to rebook in a click. The platform is already built to take them.
